9/1/2024 0 Comments Happy new yearToday is the 9th January 2024, and I was supposed to start this blog on the start of the year.
Not a very good start, but you have to understand that I consider myself to be at least semi retired these days. In fact, this year is a bit of a milestone one for me. In a few months I will turn 60, which by most people’s reckoning makes me old. Thing is, I don’t feel that old, except for my back of course. That feels well past it these days. I do not, however, feel like working for a living on a normal basis. I am definitely too old for that. So instead I buy and sell old furniture in order to pay a few bills and at the same time feel like I am doing something constructive. Today would be a good representation of what this means. A couple of days ago I listed a nice pine table and chairs on the internet (Facebook Marketplace to be totally accurate). Yesterday someone a few miles away got in touch and asked to come and see it today. Amazingly they actually turned up (anyone who sells stuff in a similar way will appreciate how unusual this is) and agreed to buy it for the listed price. The last bit was not such a surprise, as I do have a habit of underpricing things. At the same time we (I include the good lady wife in this) were buying at an auction thanks to the wonders of the internet. This afternoon I delivered the said table and chairs and on Thursday I will be picking up some new furniture from today’s auction. This is the circle of life for us dealers. Enough for now, I need to go and make tea before Emmerdale comes on the tele. Bye for now
